Well people, sorry about the delay between entries, but I've been busy and they're having problems with the campus routers again.... not like anyone reads these entries anyway. Now on to the things at hand. Haven't really had much time for the site because last week I was working on homework so I could hunt this weekend then I spent all of Saturday, Sunday, and Monday in the woods hunting. Went out all day Saturday with Brent from 545am till dark, which is about 530 or 6. I saw 4 does that day... the first one was so early I couldn't see it through the scope because it was too dark. I saw the next one around 8 or so, but it was directly behind the tree I had my stand in so I couldn't get a shot at it, the bastard! Finally, around 3 or 4 I saw two does out about 60 yards or so going through the brush... I made a critical error though... instead of picking a spot and shooting I followed it. I pulled the trigger just as it crossed behind a tree, so guess what I shot... fucking jackpine. Didn't see anything else the rest of the day and went home with nothing. Brent didn't see anything... We went back to Brent's place to find Cecil waiting there for us... in the back of his truck he had a huge buck that he'd shot that morning... 12 points, and it was over 200 pounds field dressed. It was an extemely impressive chunk of deer for certain... haven't talked to him since then, but he said there was another one about the same size where he was hunting that he was going to try for on Sunday.

A quick pic on noon of opening day before we went home for lunch.

Sunday was a pretty damn good day overall... went back out to the same spot with Brent again till about 2... I only saw one buck, but it was right after I had climbed up in my stand, so I didn't have my rifle loaded yet. By the time I'd gotten a round in the chamber it was into the brush so I couldn't see it. Brent saw two a little later than that, but they were on the run and too far away to get a decent shot at, so we went back to his place a little less than pleased. Fortunately things wound up ending a little better... Brent's friend Tim called, and we wound up hunting with him and one of his sons. First we headed out southwest of town and hunted this swamp down by the Mississippi River. Tim walked and drove the deer, and within 10 or 15 minutes of our arrival his son had shot a nice doe with his .270 so we had one. We threw that onto Brent's trailer and headed back to Tim's place because his son had to work. After that we wound up hunting out by Tim's pond... right before dark Tim shot a spike buck with his 32 Winchester. Damn is that guy a good shot!!! He got it 3 times in the head on the run right before dusk! It was very impressive. So we headed in to register them, but on the way Brent's trailer decied to be uncooperative and blew a tire so we took a detour to his house with sparks flying all the way. Back at Brent's we loaded the deer into a different trailer and hauled them in and registered them. After that we headed back to Tim's place where we hung and skinned them... first time I had done that. It was a bit difficult, but not as bad as I was expecting. After that we went in and had some Elk burgers and coffee before going home. I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow. I forgot my rifle in Brent's truck that night, so I didn't do a whole lot of hunting Monday... I did spend a little bit of time out at Rich's place, but not enough to see anything or even get settled anywhere before it got dark. That's about it for my activities thus far. On a side note, it seems that poor friend Matthew's situation isn't getting any better. People need to get a clue, quit being cocksuckers, and just leave him the fuck alone. Go Matthew!!! Defeat the ignorant forces at work! I guess that's about all for my thoughts and ranting for the day.
