Well, today the focus of my journal entry is Solway, MN which just happens to be my town of origin. Solway is a huge metropolis that measures 2 blocks by 3 blocks and has a population of 89 people (from the last sign update anyway... I personally think it's less than that now)
For being so small, Solway does have quite a few things though... a grocery/livestock feed store, a post office, a body shop, a church, a fire station, a bar, an antique store (which is actually the old school).
Solway School is actually about 1/2 a mile east of town. My kindergarten class was the last class that went to the old school, which was much to small for the 150 students (students are from a large surrounding area) who were in it. So they built the new school and we moved into it after Christmas break of my Kindergarten year. The only things I really remember about the old school are that we had Art and Gym in the basement, the huge bell they had outside, and that some big kid fell of the big slide and broke his arm.
The two things I remember most about that school was the new computer lab, which boasted 12, count'em, 12 brand spanking new Apple II GS computers with full EGA (16color ) color monitors. I remember hours spent playing The Oregon Trail, and numerous other entertaining games in there. I also remember "the boat" which was like a rocking thing you sat in shaped like a boat, and if you rocked hard enough it would slide across the floor. Some kid named Jesse once put his hand under "the boat" when were were in there and broke one of his fingers. I also remember a kid named Josh who got his finger cut off in a boat motor that year.
Amazing what kinds of things you can remember... all of the sudden my mind is filled with memories of people I haven't seen in years and fun stuff we did. Sadly, one of them named Amy died a couple years ago. Her friend flipped the car they were in and she got here legs trapped under it; she wound up drowning in the ditch... what a shitty way to go. She was nice and I remember her dad was the 5th grade teacher at the new school. I went there until 3rd grade, when I moved to Nevada... and then resided there until 6th grade when I moved to IL.
Anyway... I had another motive to go to Solway today other than to take picture. I took my Hunter's Safety test... and guess what? I got a fuckin 100% on it... hell fuckin' yeah!!!
Other than that I just went to class today and worked on a group final project for a class most of this afternoon, and then again after I returned home from Solway.
That's about it for today.
