| I first met Chris when I moved to IL in the 6th grade, but we really never knew each other very well until our freshman year, when we started playing football down in Milford. Throughout our freshman and sophomore years we got to be close and spent a lot of time hanging out before and after games. I also remember going for cruises to Watseka or down to Milford on weekends in his little Mazda truck. After home football games we'd go out camping and fishing till midnight or so, then pack up and head home since we often had practice the next morning. Our junior year I quit football and Chris' house burned down so he moved to Watseka and I didn't see him a whole lot after that. He left school at the end of our Junior year took an early graduation program so he didn't wind up going to school our senior year. After he got his degree Chris landed a job as a car salesman and got an apartment back in town. I still didn't see him much though because we were both working and it just never happened. The last time I saw him we were both in a hurry and just said a quick "Hi"; looking back on it I sure wish I could have said so much more to him. Under some shady circumstances a lot of people don't know much about and still stir shit over (I fucking hate gossip like that) Chris shot himself around midnight on February 9th, 2001. I still remember not believing it until I actually saw him at the visitation. I don't think there was a dry eye in that place, or at the funeral. I just wish someone could have known what was happening so things didn't turn out like they did. I know I still miss him, and many others do too... |
