Finally, a section of my site dedicated to one of my numberous pastimes; Magic: The Gathering.
Well, where to begin? I started playing Magic back in 1995, but I had some cards before then. I first bought my pack of them in Hill's department
store in Danville in early 1995. I never really understood how to use them though, so the cards sat untouched in a drawer in my room.
Then along came Bryan, he told me that he, his brother Matthew, and cousin Andy (who had taught them how to play) frequently played, and
that they would teach me how to play. Armed with my "deck"; (which was just a 4th Edition Starter Box) I went over and after a little bit, learned
how to play. I acquired more cards at BC Collectibles in Danville, and from friends who also played. Still, I really didn't know how to build any
sort of themed deck, or even how to play that well but I loved the game. Over the years I really kind of came in and out of it, and didn't really start
playing heavy until 1996 or 1997. However, by that time I was starting to get frustrated with the game... they were making it more
commericalized and set up for ease. In my mind this constituded a sell out by WOTC (the company who makes the cards), and when they
went to the new card system involving card numbers and the rarity by color of the symbol I'd had quite enough. From that set (Exodus) on I
never purchased a new card, and I still haven't. I play with Alpha-Stronghold and really don't have much regard for any sort of banned or
restricted list... they made the damned cards to play with, not to sit and collect dust in some case or shoebox.
For a while I did play in tournaments occasionally though, so I have some Type I Legal decks. I love building semi-streamlined decks with
some sort of simple mechanic to them that catches people off guard. It works especially well on those who run newer cards and don't play
against me that often. It still makes me laugh when someone looks a my cards and asks what set they're from because they don't recognize
the symbol. (Gotta love being old school sometimes) On the flip side of that, whenever I play with younger people these days I have no idea
what the hell a lot of the newer cards do.
Anyhoo, I have a rather small, but semi-expensive collection of cards at present. The bulk of my money is in the decks that I have built for play,
and the assortment of in-progress decks that are in assorted states of completion.
Below are a list of my decks; click on them to read a little about each one and then see the decklist for it. I personally hate the ideas of copying
decks from the net, and I won't do it as a matter of principle, but I do love showing off what I've taken the time and money to build.
