Type-II Magic Tournament  October 19, 2003
Well, I played in the local tournament today, which was type-II (which still sucks).  Today marked the first tournament in which Mirrodin was legal, so many decks were based around new Mirrodin cards, since the Odyssey cycle is now out.  I played my elves yet agian, but I did a 2 card modification.  I removed my last two Stonewood Envokers and put in 2 Tribal Forcemage.  Those two cards really helped me out today.  So, below is the round by round analysis...

1st Round:

I played against a guy named Gabe who was running a green and white agro deck with removal.  I lost the first game closely after he Wrathed and I couldn't recover.  He was using those damn guys that get +1/+1 for every spell you play, but he had trouble keeping up with my alpha status and Timberwatch Elves... he sacrificed a creature to bring him from -2 life up to 3, then beat me in the next turn.   Game two was a complete blowout for me... I completely overran him with my Treetop Scouts and Alpha Status.  He went on to beat me by 2 life in game three... it was a really drwn out game and I couldn't compete with his fatties.

Rounds (0-1)  / Total Record (1-2)

2nd Round:

Played Tony, who was running an white soldier with equipment deck.  The deck was very slow, and once I got out my Taunting Elves it was all over.  I completely blew him out in 2...

Rounds (1-1) / Total Record (3-2)

3rd Round:

Played young Chris again, who I beat in 3 last week.  He was playing white flyers with life gain this week.  I used my Wellwishers to nullify his flying attacks and Taunting Elves to clear his ground creatures.   Then I just pumped up some other creatures for cleanup in both games.  Those Forcemages really helped out in game two... I morphed them to give 6 elves +4/+4 and trample on top of the other abilities from the Timberwatches and cards in my hand.  I won quite easily in two thanks to the Wellwishers.

Rounds (2-1) / Total Record (5-2)

4th Round:

This round was my downfall... I had my hopes up for 2nd place and they were dashed by Frankie, who was playing a white protection deck.  I was beating him down pretty easily and had the game well in hand, but then he pulled up his protection (story circle, wing shards, wrath of god) and I was fucked after that.  He stomped me with his fliers and I couldn't pull my Wellwishers.  I was forced to concede game two on a ruling about Worhip and Ivory Mask... needless to say I was less than happy about that.  So, I fell 0-2 in this round, ending the success I'd been having up until that point.

Final Results for the day...

Rounds (2-2) / Total Record (5-4)

The winner (Josh) went (4-0) with a record of (8-3).  Gabe got 2nd place with (3-1) in rounds and a record of (7-4).  Several people went 5-4 and 4-6... only one person went 0-8 on the day.

I guess next week might be Type-I... I'm sure hoping so.

End of tournament analysis.
