Type-I Tourney / November 2, 2003 / Bemidji, MN
Well, the time came for Type-I and I stepped up and kicked some ass today.  I knew my discard would do well, but it did even better than predicted against a variety of decks.

Round 1

I played Ross, who was using a black and blue control / Psychatog deck.  I had good opening hands and burned his hands out so quickly that he couldn't even get his game rolling.  My deck performed like clockwork and I easily took him down in 2; I had 1st turn Hippies both games.

Rounds (1-0)  / Record (2-0)

Round 2

I got a bye, which automatically puts you two up.

Rounds (2-0) / Record (4-0)

Round 3

Played Cody, who was using a black and blue Guiltfeeder / Traumatize deck.  The combo is very harsh, but I had great draws again and never allowed him to keep a Guiltfeeder on the table, while my pain mechanics chipped away his life.  Game 2 took a little while, but once he put out phyrexian areans he sealed his own fate... I had enough removal to deal with anything he could lay down.  I won again in 2 rather easily.

Rounds (3-0) / Record (6-0)

Round 4

Played Brady, who was running a mono red fire deck.  He was 6-1 at this point, and I was the only undefeated player of the day.  I stomped his ass down the first game, but I ran out of gas after that.  In game 2 I couldn't get land, and in game 3 I had his hand down to nothing, but I couldn't pull a pain mechanic to save my ass.  He wound up pulling off games 2 and 3 to win the tournament.

Rounds (3-1) / Record (7-2)

2nd place overall!!! Hell yeah!

Overall I was quite pleased with my deck's performance and the absence of my usual play mistakes.  Today really made the usuals look at me as a force to be reckoned with in Type-I.  I'm hoping to go all the way in some type-I when they have them again... by then I should also have my Type-I fire completed and up here, so I'll have some choices as to what I'll play at the tournaments.

End of analysis.
